Go Mammoth’s classes offer a relaxed, enjoyable environment to learn pilates. If you’re planning on signing up or have done so already, here’s what you can expect from your first class:
In short…not much. Simply wear comfortable, loose clothes that you won’t mind getting sweaty in. Make sure your choice of clothes isn’t too baggy however as your instructor will want to see your posture and how your bones align during certain positions. Wearing baggy clothes during certain pilates poses could also be a little revealing.
If you don’t own a pilates or yoga mat, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. However you may want to invest in a beginner’s mat for your course as it’s an essential accessory for anyone practicing pilates. If you’re unsure about which one to buy, check out our top 5 mats for beginners.
Our pilates classes are carried out barefoot so don’t worry if you haven’t got an amazing pair of trainers… you don’t need them! It’s important to keep hydrated however – especially if you’ve taken a break from any sustained exercise – so make sure you bring a bottle of water to class with you.
You’ll start your first class with some simple breathing exercises accompanied with some gentle stretching exercises to help loosen your muscles.
Your instructor is there to help and they want you to enjoy the class. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. It’s a good idea to arrive to your first class a little to meet your instructor – them the instructor about any recent or existing injuries you may have, as they will be able to advise as to whether you should modify or sit out certain positions.
